Blair Out

I had no inkling that something like this would happen, but Tony Blair is out. He just resigned. I was looking around on the blogosphere for more commentary on it, but all I found was this article on NRO about the future of US-Britain relations. I wonder why he decided to step down. I have no idea what the current cycle is for the British Prime Minister so who knows if he has 1 year or 10 left in this current term. I wonder what the story is behind that though.

Funny that you ask. I happen to be a political scientist. It's actually been in the woodworks for quite a while -- usually the PM's step down way earlier than Tony Blair did. I think he's one of the longest running PM's in Britain history barring a few others. But they've always known it was going to happen -- it was just a matter of time. In fact, his replacement is almost sure to be the current Chancellor of the Exchequer Mr. Brown. If you'd like to know more, please stop by my office hours anytime :)

Thanks for the insight Caitlin. That's actually exactly what I was wondering. I know also they anticipated him staying longer, but then he has been under fire for the Iraq stuff and there is a lot of anti-americanism over there right now, so he ended up winning by the smallest margin this last election. And yeah, I did hear Arnold was over there. I forget how that came to my attention...I wouldn't have thought this post would get so many comments.
